# Application

Q: If I apply for PSRS program before February 6th, 2024, does it mean that I apply for all scholarships but finally I can only get one of them?

A: The scholarships are not cumulative. The best scholarships are granted to the best ranked students.

Q: When can self-funded students apply?

A: If you apply before February 6th, you can be ranked and granted with a scholarship or ranked and accepted on the reserve list. In the latter case you are accepted as a self-funded student and keep a chance to get a scholarship in case of withdrawal of another student ranked with a scholarship (which occurs every year).

Q: I am a final year student of bachelor of technology in Optics and Optoelectronics. The application procedure requires an academic transcript of records. I have only five results, from 1st to 5th semester of bachelor of technology.

A: We definitely accept applications from students in their final year of Bachelor degree. We thus encourage you to apply with the transcripts of your 5 first semesters. If you are selected, your final admission will be confirmed after receiving your Bachelor degree.

Q: Do I need to submit additional / separate application to be considered for scholarships?

A: No. Your online application to PSRS degree will be used to award scholarships managed by the Consortium as well (EMJMD scholarships, Consortium scholarships, Graduate School Manutech SLEIGHT scholarships), and, if you’re selected, to national scholarships programmes during the period of study. Scholarships attribution will be communicated at the same time as the outcome of the selection. Time will be given to applicants to confirm their commitment to register to the PSRS programme in the light of the scholarship award (if you can only join our Programme with substantial financial support for instance).

However, there is a number of scholarships programmes (bilateral, multilateral) you may be eligible for. We encourage you to look for such opportunities, that can complement the financial support you’ll may receive from us. We’ll provide any needed supporting documentation but application to such programmes are your own responsibility. Application process and supporting documentation differ between programmes.

Q: I wish to enroll in your programme but I don’t have the financial ability to finance this period of study. What are my options?

A: Applying to PSRS Master Degree will mean applying to scholarships managed by the Consortium as well. EMJMD, for PSRS, is a very generous scholarship that can virtually finance any expenses (including costs of living and travel expenses) during your 2-year Master Degree enrollment. Consortium scholarships are less but they go with reduced participation costs. Other programmes are available to scientific students with outstanding academic background. Please do apply; you’ll be informed of scholarship award at the same time as the selection outcome and you will be given time to decide if you wish to enroll given the level of financial support we offer.

Q: If l apply for Erasmus Mundus PSRS program, am I eligible to apply for New Franco-Thai scholarship as well?

A: Yes you can apply to any bilateral and multilateral scholarship programme in addition to scholarships managed by the Consortium (EMJMD scholarships, Consortium scholarships, Foundation Jean Monnet scholarships, IDEX University of Lyon scholarships, Graduate School Manutech SLEIGHT scholarships). Separate and specific application process and deadline will apply. If you do so please contact us to inform us about your scholarship application. We might be able to help!

  # English Proficiency

Q: I cannot produce, at the time of the online application, results of an internationally recognized English test (TOEFL, TOEIC, …). Does that make me ineligible?

A. No. If you are short-listed, you’ll have to participate to a distance interview through Skype that will allow us to assess your English proficiency. Although producing a test is of course better to go through this first short-list, we will consider mainly your academic background. If your cover letter – among other considerations – prove to be written in a decent English, this won’t be an issue.

#Academic background

Q: My major in undergraduate stage is Electronic information science and technology. In fact, what I had learned was more about Telecommunications (Digital or Analog Circuits, siganl processing, electromagnetic field), Physics and limited Programming curriculums( C/C++). I notice that this program is more about Photonics. Do you think it is possible for me to be admitted by this program according to course relevance?

A: We are looking for brilliant students and our experience leads us to accept students who demonstrated high skills even if they are not precisely in the fields of photonics. Your experience in signal processing and in electromagnetics is quite valuable and it should not be very hard to get the minimum required background in photonics. If you are accepted, you will be asked to follow an online course in photonics. For some students, it is just reminders, for other students it gives the required background to start the programme with confidence.

Q: Am I eligible with a BS in textile industry / Electronics Engineering / Chemistry …

A: Please check carefully this section for academic background requirements for PSRS.

We don’t specifically target a given major at bachelor level, but rather applicants with a solid academic background in the general fields of physics and/or engineering and/or computer science.

It really depends on bachelor’s curriculum.

# Application platform

Q: When I login to my account, my application/s appears as “pending”. What should I do?

A: Once you’ve submitted succesfully your application, a pop-up message indicate that your application has been saved successfully (in green on the upper-right of the screen) and your application appears as “pending” in the left menu. As long as you’ve received an automatic confirmation email, this means your application will be considered by the selection committee.

# Applying for a French visa

Q: Do I need to apply to Campus France CEF in addition to the online application?

A: You should first apply online to the Master’s Degree. If you’re selected, we’ll guide you through the Campus France application, if applicable. We’re in direct contact with Campus France offices and work toward simplifying as much as possible the CEF procedure for selected students.
