Are you well skilled for iPSRS?

Before applying to the iPSRS EMJM programme, it is natural to wonder whether your background is well aligned with the expected level.
To help you evaluate and strengthen your preparation, we have compiled a detailed set of
prerequisites in mathematics, optics, and wave physics that you are expected to master before your arrival.

These prerequisites are not meant to discourage you, but to guide your preparation and ensure that you will be ready to:

  • Follow advanced courses effectively.
  • Participate actively in lectures, labs, and group discussions.
  • Progress confidently from the very beginning of the programme.

You can use the attached document to assess your current level. It includes:

  • A list of the key concepts to know before joining.
  • Learning objectives to help you identify any gaps.
  • Recommended online resources to study and practice independently before the start of the programme.

During the Induction Week, a mandatory supervised test (without documents or smartphones) will assess your understanding of these prerequisites. Its purpose is to:

  • Give you a clear picture of your current level.
  • Help the teaching team provide appropriate support.
  • Relate your prerequisite knowledge to your later academic performance in Semester 1.

If you find that you are missing some knowledge, don’t worry — with motivation and early preparation, you can acquire the required skills before the interview stage and demonstrate your commitment to succeed in the programme.

Arriving well prepared will make a decisive difference in your confidence, your learning experience, and your ability to thrive within the iPSRS community.
